Modern software delivery runs through a sprawl of independent tools — source control, build systems, artifact registries, test runners, deployment controllers, and operational monitors — each speaking its own private dialect of webhooks and proprietary events. CDEvents, an incubating project of the Continuous Delivery Foundation, defines a shared vocabulary so these tools can finally understand one another. Built on top of the CloudEvents transport, it specifies standardized event types for every stage of delivery, from a commit landing in a repository through builds, artifacts, tests, deployments, and operational health. This book begins with the interoperability problem CDEvents was created to solve, then explores how events are structured as subjects and predicates, how they ride inside CloudEvents, and how links and chains weave individual events into traceable end-to-end stories. We walk through each event category in turn, look at the SDKs that let you produce and consume events in Go, Python, Rust, and Java, and close with how to adopt CDEvents in a real toolchain and where it fits in the wider ecosystem.
