Welcome to Kube-OVN: Enterprise SDN for Kubernetes.

Kube-OVN is a CNCF networking project that wires the mature world of software-defined networking into Kubernetes. Where the default cluster network gives you flat pod connectivity and little else, Kube-OVN borrows Open Virtual Network and Open vSwitch — the same technologies that power large OpenStack clouds — to deliver subnets, fixed IP addresses, virtual private clouds, NAT and elastic IPs, quality-of-service limits, ACL-based network policy, multi-cluster interconnection, and a path toward host-level performance. This book opens by asking why ordinary Kubernetes networking falls short for enterprises and virtual machines, then grounds you in OVN and OVS before tracing Kube-OVN's own control plane and data plane. From there it works through the concepts that matter day to day: subnets and IP address management, overlay versus underlay networks, gateways and NAT, multi-tenant VPCs, security and traffic shaping, and the advanced territory of cross-cluster networking, hardware offload, and KubeVirt. A closing chapter turns to running Kube-OVN well in production.
