Stateful applications need storage that is fast, reliable, and close to the workload, yet most Kubernetes clusters fall back on remote network storage that adds latency and operational weight. HwameiStor, a CNCF sandbox project, takes a different path: it pools the local disks already sitting inside each node — HDDs, SSDs, and NVMe drives — into a Kubernetes-native storage system that provisions local volumes through the standard CSI interface, while still offering cross-node high availability when you need it. This book walks the whole system end to end. We begin with the problem of stateful storage and what "container attached storage" means, then meet the Local Disk Manager and its disk-discovery model. From there we build up the Local Storage engine and LVM-backed volumes, the scheduler and admission controller that keep pods next to their data, high-availability replicas powered by DRBD, and the migration and eviction machinery that keeps volumes safe as nodes come and go. A closing chapter covers installation, day-two operations, and where HwameiStor fits among other cloud-native storage projects.
