OpenGitOps: The Standard for GitOps

For years GitOps meant slightly different things to everyone who said it. OpenGitOps is the CNCF working group, under the App Delivery TAG, that fixed this by writing down a small, careful definition the whole industry can point to. It is not software but an open standard built from four GitOps Principles — desired state that is declarative, versioned and immutable, pulled automatically, and continuously reconciled — plus a shared glossary and a maturity model. This book walks the standard from the ground up: why a definition was needed, each principle in turn, the terminology and reconciliation loop behind them, how tools like Argo CD and Flux implement them, and how teams adopt GitOps without rewriting everything they already have.
