OpenChoreo: A Developer Platform for Kubernetes
by Shriira Press
OpenChoreo is an open-source internal developer platform built on Kubernetes, distilled from WSO2's Choreo SaaS and now a CNCF Sandbox project. It closes the gap between raw Kubernetes and developer productivity by offering a small set of abstractions — Project, Component, Workload, Environment, and a promotion pipeline — that a control plane compiles into real cluster resources. This book covers the platform gap it solves, its multi-plane architecture, the developer abstractions and platform APIs, the cell-based runtime that enforces zero-trust networking with Cilium and eBPF, build and GitOps workflows on Argo, the observability plane, and how teams adopt it alongside Backstage and the wider cloud-native ecosystem.
