KubeElasti: True Scale-to-Zero for Kubernetes Services
by Shriira Press

KubeElasti is a CNCF Sandbox project that closes a long-standing gap in Kubernetes autoscaling. HPA and KEDA scale a workload between one and many replicas but stop short of zero, because a service with no pods has nowhere to send the next request. KubeElasti solves this with a small operator and a lightweight resolver: an idle service is scaled to zero, and when a request arrives the resolver catches it, queues it, triggers a scale-up, and replays it once pods are ready. This book covers the idle-workload problem, the ElastiService custom resource, the operator-and-resolver architecture, the proxy-versus-serve request path, cooperation with HPA, KEDA, and Prometheus, and how to run it in production.
