Kubean: Declarative Cluster Lifecycle Management
by Shriira Press
Kubean is a CNCF sandbox project that brings production-grade Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management into the operator pattern. Under the hood it relies on kubespray, the trusted Ansible engine for installing Kubernetes, but instead of running Ansible by hand you describe a cluster with a Cluster resource and trigger work with a ClusterOperation, and the kubean-operator runs each operation as a Job. This book covers the lifecycle problem Kubean solves, the kubespray foundation it builds on, the operator and its four controllers, the Cluster, ClusterOperation, Manifest, and LocalArtifactSet CRDs, the day-to-day operations of creating, scaling, upgrading, and retiring clusters, first-class offline and air-gapped delivery, and how Kubean fits a real platform team's GitOps workflow.
