Easegress is an open-source traffic orchestration system from MegaEase, donated to the CNCF as a sandbox project. Rather than a separate gateway, load balancer, and mesh proxy, it offers one composable engine: traffic enters an HTTPServer, flows through a Pipeline built from small reusable Filters, and reaches your backends with the validation, transformation, resilience, and routing you choose. This book builds that picture from the ground up — the Raft-backed control plane and Supervisor, HTTPServers and routing, the Pipeline and Filter model with jumpIf flow control, the Proxy and load balancing, the resilience toolkit of circuit breakers and rate limiters, the service mesh sidecar mode, WebAssembly extensibility, and the practical work of running a cluster.
